Huawei has confirmed that it uses two different types of storage chips in its newest flagship smartphones — P10 and the P10 Plus. The company uses a faster memory chip in some production batches, while other batches come with slower chips, as reported by Android Authority website.
In an official statement, the Chinese tech giant admitted that some handsets have slower memory chips. The P10 duo is said to feature any combination of LPDDR3 or LPDDR4 RAM chips, UFS 2.0 or UFS 2.1 chips, and eMMC 5.1 storage chips.
“Huawei has employed the standard industry practice of sourcing solutions from multiple trusted suppliers to ensure a balance between user experience, quality and sustainable supply,” the company told Android Authority website.
The details came to light when some early adopters started noticing huge gaps between the storage speeds of the P10 and the P10 Plus. Some users who ran AndroBench in their handsets found read speeds ranging from 700MB/s to around 300MB/s.
