Facilitator Brian Cute looked for feedback on next steps in a community conversation about how to evolve ICANN’s multistakeholder model, to improve its efficiency and effectiveness, as part of the work to achieve Strategic Objective 2 in the Revised Draft ICANN Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2021-2025. Followed by a public comment period and multiple community webinars to identify the issues that the community feels must be addressed, this session allowed the community to discuss how to prioritize those issues in a work plan and identify owners for those issues.
Evolving ICANN’s MSM Issues
- Prioritization of the Work
- Precision in scoping the work
- Costs
- Representativeness + Inclusiveness
- Consensus
- Terms
- Recruitment + Demographics

- Efficient Use of Resources
- Culture + Trust + Silos
- Roles and Responsibilities + Holistic View of ICANN
The owners of the respective issues represented a group (community, org, or Board) responsible for developing a solution or new approach to an issue. This was a deadline for proposing a solution, which must fall within the ICANN Strategic Plan’s fiscal years 2021-2025. The responsible group was also asked to identify the resources they will need to deliver the solution or new approach.
Evolving ICANN’s MSM Next Steps
- Public Comment period: Who is accountable for an issue? Further issue refinement and prioritization. Launch in the first half of July.
- Engagement with respective owners/accountable groups to:
