IET Prestige lecture in Bangalore explores the evolving phenomenon of IoT

downloadBangalore, India, July 10, 2015 – The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), one of the world’s largest professional societies for engineers, today hosted its annual IET Pinkerton lecture at Infosys Bangalore. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Robert Pepper, Vice President, Global Technology Policy, Cisco on the theme “Re-Imagining Society through the Internet of Everything”. The talk focussed on the next evolution of the Internet, the paradox of forecasts and also trends relevant to India.

During the lecture, Dr. Pepper identified critical global challenges how the Internet of Everything (IoE) can help address them through digital technology and transforming data to actionable insights. He also highlighted the latest trends in India’s fixed and mobile IP networks and presented specific IoT use-cases. Dr. Pepper also talked about the challenges to seize the opportunity for Digital India including critical technology and public policy issues that can accelerate or stall the transformational benefits of IoE for India and the world.

During the lecture, Dr. Robert Pepper said, “The world is going digital and IoT is redefining  customization and innovation in engineering. The IET Pinkerton lecture is a unique proposition by the IET to ensure the technical community is kept abreast with the latest trends in engineering and technology and IoT/IoE is definitely the next market transition for all sectors of engineering and society.  I am honoured to be part of this important conversation.

As part of its mission to Inspire, Inform and Influence, the IET hosts a series of International Prestige Lectures in India. Global celebrity speakers and subject matter experts across sectors are invited to share their knowledge and insights with members of industry and academia.

“The IET is focusing on Internet of Things by bringing together experts across sectors to discuss the trends and challenges of this rapidly evolving phenomenon” said Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head of IET India. “In February 2015 we set up the IET India IoT panel . The topic for this year’s Pinkerton Lecture is a natural extension of our endeavour to share deep insights on IoT. Dr. Robert Pepper has been instrumental in developing strategies and ideas for internet policies and it has been an honour for us to host him.  We hope that Dr. Pepper’s talk has added a rich dimension of understanding to the Internet of Things”, he added.

The IET Pinkerton lecture is hosted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology in honour of John Pinkerton, who was involved in designing the UK’s first business computer in 1951. For more details on the IET Pinkerton Lecture 2015, please visit http://events.theiet.in/Pinkerton2015/
