One out of every three engineers at Apple is an Indian!
It is probable that one out of every three of $71 billion company’s engineering staff is an Indian. A large and ever increasing amount of its enterprise software, service and all the support work is undertaken by Indian IT vendors.
Apple reportedly filed 1,750 H-1B applications during the 10 year period from 2001 to 2010 but, it saw a boost of 2,800 during 2011-13. US based HfS Research which compiled the data pragmatic that majority of H-1Bs would be Indians which indicates iPhone and iPad maker’s dependence on Indian experience heavily.
Pareekh Jain, principal analyst at HfS Research said, “About one third of Apple’s engineering headcount consists of Indians who are on green card or H-1Bs”. HfS arrived at this figure by looking at data disclosed by Apple in 2012, when it informed that it had 47,000 people working for it in the US, out of which 7,700 were customer support operators and 27,350 worked of retail Apple stores which leaves 12,000 as engineers designers, marketers and other white collar tech product workers.
It also came to a conclusion that Apple works with at least five Indian IT vendors which includes four big and one small company.
