Indus Towers, India’s largest Telecom Tower Company was awarded the prestigious Green Mobile Award at the Global Mobile Awards 2013 in Barcelona, Spain for its commitment to Green technology. The GSMA Global Mobile Awards recognize and celebrate all the contributions made to the ever-evolving and developing mobile industry. This year there were over 600 entries and only 37 were nominated. Winning this award places Indus Towers in the global arena and speaks volumes of the initiative which is also a first in the Indian telecom industry. Indus Towers’ commitment to reduce Carbon Footprint and live the value of Environment through its Green Initiatives has been taken to cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, Patan, Palanpur, Chandigarh, Kolkata and Mumbai and over 17, 500 sites across the country been declared green.

Indus Towers under its Carbon Abatement Program uses energy sources like batteries and other renewable sources to reduce dependence on diesel for running its telecom Towers. The initiative is to manage network operations by eliminating Diesel Genset running at the site by augmenting electricity supply / battery bank/other technology initiative (deployment of FCU, inverter and other technical solutions) without compromising on the network connectivity.

The presentation of the awards takes place during the Mobile World Congress the world’s largest and leading mobile industry event held annually in Barcelona (25th -28th February 2013).
