Infosys will be setting up a 6.6 MW powered solar power plant at Pocharam campus, Telangana. This is second in line to the existing 0.6 MW capacity rooftop solar plant. The campus will operate completely by renewable energy.
The new plant amassing a total capacity of 7.2 MW works in sync with the grid and is going to produce 12 million kWh of power annually. The initiative is aimed at bringing down Infosys’ CO2 emissions by 9,200 tons. At present, Infosys has set up 12 MW solar power plants across its campuses and another 3 MW is going to be set up within the coming two months.
According to Vishal Sikka, chief executive officer and managing director, Infosys, “Our company’s commitment to our broader purpose and to our communities, has always brought us great pride. The Infosys founders set this standard from the beginning, and we see this in the contributions of our employees to their communities and in times of crisis, such as the recent Chennai floods; we see this in the work of the Infosys Foundations; and we see this perhaps most clearly in our work in our facilities.”
The new campus is known worldwide to be among the greenest campuses having world-class innovation in sustainability. The campus will be the first to have a radiant cooling technology in India.
