Instagram is currently experimenting with a feature that allows users to produce custom stickers for their Reels or Stories using their own photos or images found on the platform. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, made the announcement on his broadcast channel, unveiling this new addition. He demonstrated the feature, which lets users create stickers from photos in their camera roll or eligible images on Instagram. While no further details were provided, it seems users may have the option to convert their photos into stickers.
Additionally, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has introduced AI-powered stickers for chats and stories. This feature utilizes the Llama 2 language model and the Emu image generation model to convert text inputs into multiple stickers. Initially, it’s available to select English-speaking users on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories, with a gradual rollout.
Instagram’s sticker feature appears simpler in comparison to Meta’s AI-generated stickers. It focuses on selecting the subject of a photo and eliminating the background, whereas the latter creates entirely new stickers using AI.
In another testing phase, Instagram is working on enabling users to create polls within the comments section of their posts. Although this test is currently limited, it is expected to be available to all users soon. These comment section polls will resemble the ones seen in Instagram Stories, with the number of votes visible to other users.
