IT employees in India earn gross salary of Rs 341.8 per hour, which makes this sector the most attractive one in the country’s job market. The next sector in the line-up is finance where employees rake in Rs 291 per hour, a recent report has revealed. Monster India, one of the leading online career and recruitment solutions provider in the country, has come out with the data.
According to Monster India, people working in the IT sector in the country earn Rs 341.8 per hour, on an average, which is obviously the highest salary across all the sectors. The data has been showed by the Monster Salary Index (MSI). Salary structures in other sectors include Rs 259 per hour in the construction sector, Rs 186.5 in the education sector, Rs 215 in the healthcare sector, Rs 215.6 in the legal sector and Rs 230.9 in the manufacturing and transport sectors.
It means employees working in the education sector are getting the lowest hourly salary of Rs 186.5 per hour. This sector has more women employees than other sectors and they are paid 18 per cent lesser than their male counterparts in the same sector. Monster India MD for India/Middle East/ Southeast Asia/Hong Kong, Sanjay Modi, commented on the finding that the country is seeing a new surge of development which is expected to boost jobs and employment rates, with direct impact on salary and income structures.
In the global scenario too, this kind of discrimination has been noticed in salary packages among male and female employees. But in India this gender pay gap is quite visible. Women are said to be earning 34 per cent lesser than men in the IT sector too, and in the finance sector the gap is around 19 per cent. The report further says, though women are getting more promoted to higher ranks these days, this development doesn’t show its impact on the salary structures of women. Monster India built this Monster Salary Index (MSI) in collaboration with Paycheck.in and IIM-Ahmedabad, as their research partner.
