After a long period of wait and unexpected delay, Lenovo is ready to ship its first laptop with an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) in 
August this year. But, it is a point of speculation that will the company and oter makers bring some more models with OLED technology soon.
The 14-inch OLED screen laptop, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga is available for $1682. The price of the model can be compared to its conventional LED screen model which is priced at $1394. Both models are enriched with Intel Core i5 Skylake processor.
If we consider the OLED screen size, Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga has the largest screen in all the available models. The closest competitors, HP’s Specter x360 Convertible Laptop and Dell’s Alienware 13 gaming laptop have 13.3-inch OLED screens. It is believed that within some upcoming years, OLED screens will replace LED screens in monitors and laptops, like it happened in TVs. The qualities like thin, render sharper image and more power efficiency, make them better for laptops.
At the present time, there are only a few PC makers, which are showing interest in OLEDs. The main barriers in its popularity and application are the expensiveness and image-burn that are needed to be resolved soon.
There was a long delay in arrival of laptops with OLED and testing issues with the screen was the responsible factor for it. The specialist display makers LG and Samsung are paying their limited attention to the manufacture of OLED panels for PCs as they are focusing more on OLEDs for large-screen TVs and small-screen devices like wearables, which sell in larger volumes.
No doubt, that the PC makers who were very excited for OLED screens are stepping back. HP, for one, has said it will limit OLED to premium models and wait for the technology, supply, and pricing to stabilize before bringing the technology to lower-priced laptops. There’s also a catch with the ThinkPad X1 Yoga OLED model — you can’t get WiGig Wi-Fi, which is available in the LED models.
The ThinkPad has a rotating touch screen that can display images at a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. The laptop weighs 1.2 kilograms and is 17 millimeters thick. It offers around 11 hours of battery life, according to Lenovo. Other features in the entry-level model include a 128GB solid-state drive, 8GB of RAM, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The laptop also has a 720p webcam, three USB 3.0 ports, a micro-SD slot, a Mini-DisplayPort, and HDMI display slots.
