At Mobile World Congress 2025, Jio Platforms Limited (JPL), in partnership with AMD, Cisco, and Nokia, unveiled plans for a groundbreaking Open Telecom AI Platform aimed at equipping telecom operators and service providers with practical, AI-powered solutions. This platform promises to boost efficiency, enhance security, unlock new capabilities, and create fresh revenue streams for the industry.
Comprehensive Network Intelligence
Drawing on the combined strengths of leaders in radio access networks (RAN), routing, AI data centers, security, and telecommunications, the Telecom AI Platform will establish a centralized intelligence layer for telecom and digital services. This multi-domain system will embed AI and automation across all network operations. It will be flexible in its use of large language models (LLMs), incorporate open APIs, and combine agentic AI, domain-specific small language models (SLMs), and traditional machine learning to deliver end-to-end network management intelligence.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, emphasized, “By integrating agentic AI across telecom layers, we’re crafting a multimodal, multidomain platform that redefines efficiency, intelligence, and security. Alongside AMD, Cisco, and Nokia, Jio is pioneering an Open Telecom AI Platform to evolve networks into self-optimizing, customer-focused systems. This goes beyond automation—it’s about creating autonomous, AI-driven networks that adapt instantly, improve user experiences, and unlock new opportunities across the digital landscape.”
Industry Leaders Weigh In
Lisa Su, AMD’s chair and CEO, stated, “AMD is excited to team up with Jio Platforms Limited, Cisco, and Nokia to fuel the next wave of AI-enhanced telecom infrastructure. With our high-performance CPUs, GPUs, and adaptive computing technologies, we’ll help service providers build secure, efficient, and scalable networks, delivering innovative services that will define the future of connectivity.”
Chuck Robbins, Cisco’s Chair and CEO, added, “This partnership with Jio Platforms Limited, AMD, and Nokia leverages top-tier expertise to transform networks through AI. Cisco brings solutions like Agile Services Networking, Data Center Networking, Compute, AI Defense, and Splunk Analytics to the table. We’re eager to see how this platform will drive efficiency, bolster security, and open new revenue paths for service providers.”
Nokia’s President and CEO, Pekka Lundmark, noted, “Nokia contributes its leadership in RAN, core networks, fixed broadband, and IP/optical transport to this exciting initiative. The Telecom AI Platform will enable Jio to maximize network performance, security, and efficiency while enhancing customer experiences through AI’s immense potential. We’re proud to be part of this effort.”
A Collaborative, Open Framework
The Open Telecom AI Platform, developed with Jio as its initial customer, will serve as a scalable model for the global service provider community. It aims to improve performance, reliability, security, and customer satisfaction while encouraging joint innovation and commercialization of AI-powered telecom solutions. Beyond enhancing connectivity, this collaboration seeks to spark innovation across the telecom and digital services ecosystem, driving intelligent automation, optimizing networks, and accelerating AI-driven applications for both enterprises and consumers.
