Key Highlights from India Mobile Congress:
The Indian Mobile Congress, a collaborative effort by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), attracted various stakeholders in the technology and telecom sectors. The three-day event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mukesh Ambani, and Ashwini Vaishnaw.

PM Modi announced plans to award 100 ‘5G Use Case Labs’ to educational institutions across India. He emphasized India’s transformation from being a mobile phone importer to the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally. Additionally, he highlighted the country’s expansion in electronics exports, reaching Rs 2 lakh crore. Notably, Google plans to produce its Pixel devices in India, adding to the locally manufactured Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and iPhone 15.

The IMC 2023 introduced the Aspire program aimed at nurturing Indian startups. PM Modi expressed his confidence in India’s youth, applauding their energy and potential for groundbreaking innovations. The government’s focus is on democratizing technology and ensuring access to resources, emphasizing technological advancements’ role in enhancing citizens’ lives.

PM Modi noted the government’s commitment to providing improved internet connectivity and speed, which has significantly increased India’s broadband capabilities. The 5G rollout has facilitated over 4 lakh base stations, covering 80% of the population and 97% of subscribers.

Moreover, the PM stressed India’s position in the global digital arena, mentioning the country’s strides in broadband speed, its transition to manufacturing various smartphones locally, and Vi’s initiatives in diverse sectors, including agriculture, automotive, and logistics. India’s digital revolution is gaining recognition globally, with other countries looking to replicate India’s Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) for inclusion and innovation. Additionally, PM Modi underlined India’s movement towards leadership in the development of 6G technology.
