Konica Minolta has been recognized, two years in a row, as a leader for the depth and quality of climate change data it has disclosed to investors and the global marketplace through CDP. Konica Minolta is also named as one of the leaders in Japan 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI), published in the CDP Japan 500 Climate Change Report 2014. This annual index highlights the constituent companies within the large Japanese 500 companies (Japan 500) including companies in the FTSE Japan Index.
In 2014 the Japan 500 CDLI comprises 28 companies achieving the disclosure score of 97 or more. Konica Minolta scored 98. High scores indicate the provision of robust climate data upon which decisions that will catalyse progress towards low carbon economies can be made. The index highlights companies providing a high level of transparency in their disclosure of climate-related information.
This year Konica Minolta is the only company in the Information Technology sector selected in both CPLI and CDLI.
In April 2014 the Konica Minolta Group launched a new Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2016, with the target year of fiscal 2016, as the action plan governing its current efforts to make progress towards Eco Vision 2050, a set of long-term goals that looks all the way out to the year 2050. In defining goals in the medium-term environmental plan, a materiality analysis was conducted to identify important issues that affect both the environment and the company, and the identified material risks and opportunities were incorporated into important themes and issues. Based on the process, the plan sets goals for both the reduction of environmental impact and corporate growth and drives initiatives globally.
Among others, Konica Minolta works on CO2 emissions reduction across the supply chain through cooperation with suppliers by utilizing the company’s environmental know-how to assist suppliers in cutting down carbon emissions at their plants. The company’s environmental management has been highly commended for contributing to reduction of environmental impact at suppliers and in broader society, while keeping these efforts in sync with the growth of the corporation and its values.
The number of investors using CDP to understand the economic risks and opportunities that climate change presents to their portfolio companies has increased on an annual basis. CDP disclosure scores are provided to investors and other decision makers through various channels to help them assess corporate preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.
