Kubuntu 15.04 Alpha 2 (Vivid Vervet) has been released for download and testing. It’s a Linux distribution which is based on Ubuntu and KDE desktop environment. Quite a few impressive improvements have been made to the distro by the developers, including Plasma desktop.
The second batch of testing images for Kubuntu 15.04 is released and now it seems developers are moving on the exact way towards perfection. This is the first time Plasma 5 desktop has been integrated with a Kubuntu version, while rest of the components belong to the previous KDE SC. The latest Kubuntu edition is pretty interesting and this if the biggest change ever in the desktop segment.
Ubuntu-based desktops usually tend to develop gradually and major differences take place at certain times. Such a leap happened when GNOME 2 paved way for Unity and now Plasma 4 is getting upgraded to Plasma 5, which is again a major one. Some of the other components have also seen upgrade, though they are not being paid much attention due to the KDE Plasma desktop, as this is the first thing to be noticed in the distro.
The release announcement says, “Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE Software is still a work in progress, but is stable enough for everyday use and it keeps getting better as new versions drop frequently.” As revealed by developers, KDE Applications 14.12.0 has also been applied by default, though some unresolved issues are still there.
