PC, laptop, and smartphone manufacturer Lenovo announced the ‘Startup with Lenovo’ campaign in India.
The company targets a 20% increase in market share in India by the end of this fiscal. The 20% market share rise is expected to push the hardware maker to the number one spot in the market, Bhaskar Choudhuri, director (marketing), Lenovo India, said.
The penetration has been 8.3% in Bengal, which is less than the national level. Apart from Bengal, the programme has witnessed a boom in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
The growth of PC penetration in India at present is at 10%, which is the lowest when compared to the developing countries like South Africa with 18%, Turkey 49% and Malaysia 64%.
“As the global PC leader, we want to address the problem of computer penetration in India. The programme has witnessed success in Andhra and Gujarat and we want to extend this to the rest of the country, including Bengal, which is a significant state for us. This will be a continued, long-term initiative that will encourage and enable PC usage in the smaller towns of India,” added Choudhri while speaking about the initiative. HP, Dell and Lenovo are among the top three players in the laptop-PC segment.
