South Korean consumer electronics giant LG is said to be working on the third generation of its smartwatches. The company has reportedly received FCC certification for two of its upcoming smartwatches. The wearables are listed with model number W270 and W280 with the certification agency. As per the listing, the smartwatches will feature a round-dial design. The smartwatch with W280 model number will have wireless charging capabilities and multi-band LTE connectivity support. The werables sport a stainless steel build and come with IP67 rating. This means that they will be water and dust resistant. As per speculations, the new LG smartwatches are likely to be powered by Snapdgraon Wear chipsets and support both 3G and 4G connectivity. In the past, LG has used both the Android Wear and WebOS for its smartwatches. However, it is expected to stick to the upcoming Android Wear 2.0. for its upcoming smartwatches. The next-generation version of Google’s operating system for wearable devices, Android Wear 2.0, is likely to launch in February.
Recently, LG’s home-country rival Samsung launched its Gear S3 smartwatch in India. Originally unveiled at IFA tradeshow in Berlin in September 2016, the Gear S3 smartwatch comes in two variants – Frontier and Classic.
Both the variants are available at a price tag of Rs 28,500 in the country. The device is set to go on sale from January 18 and will be available across authorized retail outlets.
Samsung Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch circular Super AMOLED display of 360×360 pixel resolution and 278ppi pixel density. It comes with a rotating bezel and new enhanced features. The smartwatch also has a full-colour ‘Always On’ display with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection.
Powering the Gear S3 is a dual-core 1GHz processor coupled with 768MB of RAM. Internal storage of the Gear S3, however, stays the same as that of Gear S2 – 4GB
