Addressing the media Director of LNMIIT Dr S S Gokhale mentioned that established in 2002, LNMIIT, Jaipur will be celebrating its 7th Convocation on 8th Dec 2013 at 11:00AM. Chief Guest for this function will be Dr. Anil Kakodkar,Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Bombay and Chairman, Board of Governors, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (Punjab)
Dr. S.S. Gokhale told the media that LNMIIT is a pioneering deemed university in a public private partnership mode and patron of the institute is Steel Baron, Padma Vibhushan Shri Lakshmi Niwas Mittal. He mentioned that this institute started in 2003 and till date Six Batches of students have passed out. He informed all that with over 1200 students and research scholars LNMIIT primarily focuses in ECE, CSE and CCE disciplines. This figure is likely to go up to 1500 in next 4 to 5 years. In addition to the discipline mentioned MME Mechanical Machatronic Engineering has been added to the curriculum with effect from this year.
Dr. S.S Gokhale mentioned that in the year 2013 LNMIIT has entered in to the second decade of this relatively young Institute. The first decade was a settling period in terms of intake of students, induction of faculty and other human resources, as well as academic inputs in conformity with De Novo category of UGC. This is one of the first Deemed Universities under Public-Private mode with Rajasthan State Government helping LNMIIT with excellent location and requisite support.
Dr S S. Gokhale mentioned that the first decade was also a tremendous learning experience in governance, finance management, capitalization as well as experimenting with different ways of learning in which senior faculty from various IITs played a significant role in mentoring the junior faculty. This enabled us to sharpen and widen our focus on tasks to be undertaken in the second decade.
During this Convocation, LNMIIT would be awarding One PhD degree in Engineering along with 198 B Tech, 10 MS degrees. It is heartening to note that PG program is slowly but surely gaining momentum and assuming the prime place it deserves in the modern competitive world where innovations and high end research would be the key features to solve plethora of problems.
Dr S S Gokhale informed the media that LNMIIT also encourages UG and PG research carried out by student and encourages participation in seminars and conferences. More than twenty UG students also benefit every year from summer term internship in Arcelor Mittal facilities in Kazakistan.
Highlighting the cultural achievements director mentioned that students of LNMIIT regularly organize cultural, techno-management and sports festivals spread over the academic year. Besides, religious festivities are celebrated with abundant gaiety. There are various clubs such as photography, art & crafts, fashion and dance etc, which is an essential part of a residential campus. These activities facilitate in developing well rounded personality.
The LNMIIT is presently headed by Prof S.S. Gokhale, a B Tech and M Tech in Aeronautical Engineering from IIT, Bombay followed by MS and Ph D from University of Illinois, USA. Prof S.S. Gokhale carries with him a rich background of both Academic and Administrative experience having headed NIT, Calicut and VNIT, Nagpur besides serving on various committees of national bodies including AICTE and MHRD.
