Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the apex body actively representing ICT Manufacturing, Training, IT, Design, R&D and associated services sector welcomed government’s decision to extend the deadline of “Requirement for Compulsory Registration Order 2012” by three months.The new deadline for the mandatory BIS certification is January 3, 2014.
Government’s decision would also include registered goods where statement of self-declaration along with unique registration number has not been fixed by the manufacturing units. The registration letter issued by BIS shall suffice the purpose of clearance of such consignments by Customs or Excise till 03rd January, 2014. However required labeling shall be placed by the manufacturer / local representatives of the manufacturing units before placing such goods into markets.
Commenting on this much needed extension, Anwar Shirpurwala, Executive Director, MAIT said, “The industry is elated with the extension of the deadline. With the dawn of festive season, this decision would help companies to maintain required supply of the products in the market and consumers can conveniently opt for products of their choice, further allowing companies to provide exciting festive discounts for its customers”.
The Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012, notified by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) was scheduled to come in force with effect from April 3, 2013. It meant that no manufacturing, import, storage or sale of electronics products can be done without being registered with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The government order lists products under 15 categories ranging from video games, laptop, notebook, tablet and plasma/LCD/LED televisions, to microwave, printers and scanners, telephone answering machines, electronic music systems, etc.
