Threads, the social app, has witnessed a decline in its daily active users (DAU). Recent figures from Sensor Tower revealed an 82% drop in Threads’ DAU, with only eight million users currently engaged. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, acknowledged this setback and expressed plans to introduce retention-enhancing features to prevent further user attrition.
In a Threads post, Zuckerberg noted a positive turn for the app’s community, indicating optimism about its long-term potential. He announced forthcoming search and web features within the next few weeks, emphasizing the team’s rapid progress in shipping updates.
Zuckerberg acknowledged the challenges of user retention, considering the company’s goal to maintain a substantial portion of its over 100 million sign-ups. While he views the current drop-off as normal, he anticipates an improvement in retention as the platform introduces additional features.
Threads recently introduced new features, including a chronological feed and automatic translations, to better compete in the market. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, also shared updates, such as improved notification filtering, simplified follower interactions, and a streamlined process for approving follower requests.
