One of the biggest security companies, McAfee, is now an integrated part of the world’s biggest chip company, Intel. It’s been five years since Intel announced the buyout of McAfee for $7.88 Billion.
McAfee is officially Intel Security, a business unit of Intel from 01 July 2015 onwards, says Gavin Struthers, president, Asia Pacific, Intel Security.
“This is McAfee 3.0, according to me. The first phase was McAfee 1.0 before Intel acquired McAfee. McAfee 2.0 was the time the security company became a part of Intel but operated as a completely separate unit. And finally, McAfee 3.0 is the functional alignment of back-end functions HR and finance facilities,” he adds.
Does that mean the McAfee brand will cease to exist? “No. The McAfee brand will be retained in some places (like the McAfee shield in executive visiting cards), marketing communication etcetera,” he clarifies.
Intel Security will retain the McAfee brand in product names and in branding and marketing. The company will lead with Intel as the master brand.
How does this affect channels? “Intel wants to solve the problems of security with best-of-breed products and solutions to strengthen the security posture of India Inc. It will also bring new opportunities for channel partners,” he said on his first India visit, post his appointment in the new role at Intel Security in March this year.
