News-Microsoft is losing Ted Kummert, its corporate vice president of the Data Platform Group, at the end of the month, the company confirmed.
Kummert, a 24-year-veteran at Microsoft, is expected to join another organization that is outside the tech industry, according to a source close to the company. “He’s gotten the chance to do something else,” the source said.
Kummert helped usher in in-memory data processing to Microsoft’s SQL Server database last November and has led many teams at Microsoft throughout his career with the Redmond, Wash.-based company.
Products that Kummert spearheaded under Microsoft’s Data Platform Group include Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Azure, Microsoft BizTalk Server, Windows Server AppFabric and Windows Azure platform AppFabric, Windows Communication Foundation, and Windows Workflow Foundation.
Microsoft did not say who would replace Kummert in charge of the division.
