Tech giant Microsoft has stopped support for virtual assistant Cortona for Android and iOS both. The decision is implemented immediately and the application is removed from both App Store and Play Store. However, it will keep working on Windows 10.
Users can no longer get the support from 31 March. Mobile users will not be able to access lists and reminders but can use them on Windows 10. Additionally, they can use these features on Microsoft’s To-Do App on any Android or iOS phone.
Cortona was a voice-based virtual assistant first launched in December 2015. It used Bing search engine results to answer questions of the users and perform tasks. Microsoft developed the application but failed to compete against other virtual assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. Based on the region and platform, it was available in 8 languages namely; English, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese.
The company first indicated about the shutdown back in July 2020. In the year 2019, support for Cortona was discontinued on iOS from many regions. Microsoft would shift the focus to AI-based assistants for Microsoft apps. In July 2021 Cortana service integration in the Harman Kardon Invoke speaker was also discontinued.
