ITVoice News: Microsoft has introduced a new photo sharing app on Wednesday for Android, iOS and Windows devices, dubbed as Xim (pronounced as Zim). The app is available free for download for Android and Windows devices as of now and will shortly arrive for iOS devices as well. It allows users to share photos, or Xims, as Microsoft names it, with other devices even when the other device doesn’t have the Xim app installed in it.
User who got the Xim app installed in his/her device would be able to share the pictures (as many as 50) either from the camera roll or any other source like, Dropbox, Facebook, OneDrive or Instagram.
User will have to select the picture from the respective source. After the image selection, the user would have to choose whom to invite from the contact list, or email, or phone number. The end user will get a notification via text or email, with a link, which will redirect them to a web client. The Xims can be viewed in a browser and expires after about an hour.
For now the app would require, United States or Canada phone number to be used. The Microsoft Research noted the Xim experience as, “Perfect for moments like dinner with friends, Microsoft Xim is simply a better way to share because you don’t have to pass your phone around to people. When you Xim, the photos will appear synchronously on everyone’s devices even if they don’t have the app.”
