Microsoft has opened its Visual Studio Application Insights cloud software 
telemetry service to Java developers in its latest development process of cross-platform applications.Microsoft has announced the new Applications Insights SDK for Java for the EclipseCon North America 2015 conference, which is taking place in San Francisco this week.
Application Insights was announced in November 2013 as a part of the Visual Studio Online set of services. Application Insights gathers and creates reports on usage and performance data for online applications. The reports are accessed via a dashboard by developers and IT admins. The dashboard is integrated into the Microsoft Azure Portal which means an Azure subscription is must required to utilise Application Insights.
The new SDK of the service will allow developers to monitor Java applications. But own IDEs will be required to do the actual coding like Eclipse, IntelliJ, JDeveloper and NetBeans. Support for Application Insights is also offered in the new version of the Azure Toolkit for Eclipse which is maintained by Microsoft Open Technologies. Developers can also add custom metrics and track events by adding simple calls to the Application Insights SDK to their code.
A free trial of Application Insights is also available. Application Insights will not be limited to web, ASP.Net and Java developers only. Application Insights will see more integrations in future with Android, iOS, Windows Phone and OS X apps.
