Microsoft recalls Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface Pro 3 power cords
Software giant Microsoft has announced a global recall of AC power cords sold with some of its Surface Pro tablets. The recall applies to power cords for Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 3 units. In a statement on its blog, Microsoft said, “Today, in consultation with safety regulators, we announced a voluntary replacement program for all Surface Pro AC power cords sold before March 15, 2015, in the US and Canada and before July 15, 2015, in other markets where Surface is sold. If the cord is wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time there is a potential risk for the AC cord- the cord that connects the power supply unit to the electrical socket – to overheat.” The company said that while there are no reports of serious injury, a small number of our customers have reported this issue and we are taking action to address by making free replacement cords available to all eligible customers. This means that all those users who bought a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 or Surface Pro 3 in the above timeframe, can get a free replacement AC power cord from Microsoft as soon as possible. To see check if they qualify for a free replacement, users can visit www.surface.com/powercord. Microsoft also said that “no proof of damage is required to receive a replacement AC power cord”.
