Mindtree Foundation, the CSR arm of global technology services and digital transformation company Mindtree, today launched a unique certificate program in Information Technology for underserved youth.
As part of the 18-month program, students will receive training in Information Technology, a monthly stipend throughout the duration of the program, and placement assistance upon completion of the program. The program is being implemented in collaboration with Edunet Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes technology skilling, employment, and entrepreneurship, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Dharwad, one of India’s premium educational institutions set up under a non-profit, public-private-partnership model with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Government of Karnataka and industry partner Keonics.
The inaugural batch will consist of 200 youths who have cleared their grade ten exams and have been out of school or pre-university for not more than two years. Following screening and counselling by Edunet Foundation, they will undergo a two-week bootcamp and go on to specialize in either full-stack software development or IT-enabled services. Validated by academic partner IIIT Dharwad, the program will be delivered in a blended mode through instructor-led and self-paced modules, complemented with workshops, expert talks, project work and internships.
Debashis Chatterjee, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Mindtree, said, “This program is a part of our commitment to advance economic mobility through high-quality technology training. Strengthening India’s global leadership in the digital economy requires the diversification of talent pipelines. By equipping themselves for careers in the high-growth information technology sector, these students will not only create wealth and opportunities for themselves and their communities, but also contribute to innovations of tomorrow.”
