On behalf of the State Government Hon’ able Chief Minister Shri. Devendra Fadnavis has launched the first phase of the pan-Mumbai CCTV camera surveillance network.
“After Pune and Mumbai, we are also working on this for other cities of Maharashtra. Smart city is incomplete without making it a safe city. This robust state of art surveillance network will ensure Safe, Secure & Smart Mumbai,” said Fadnavis.
For the project, the city has been divided into multiple zones wherein around 1381 CCTV cameras will be set up in the south zone (comprising areas in and around South Mumbai) in the first phase covering around 434 locations. The pan-Mumbai project envisages installation of 6,000 CCTV cameras in Greater Mumbai at the cost of Rs 949 crore likely to be completed by mid-2016. Addressing the occasion Chief Minister said that once all 3 Phases of the Project get completed Mumbai Police will have at its disposal an Integrated Command and Control center which will help in early detection and crime prevention. He also emphasized that the objective of the Government is to ensure Integration of Policing with latest technologies.
The plan is to have 6000 cameras connected to Command and Control center and undertake its integration with technologies like Global Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS), Automatic Number plate capture, CCTNS etc. This will act as a force multiplier for Mumbai Police which has seen several law and order challenges in the past. The data feed from the CCTVs would be sent to Mumbai Police headquarters and traffic police headquarters at Worli command centre.
The prime contractor L&T has further collaborated with leading Global technology providers to integrate the state of the Art solution for the city of Mumbai. For the Command and Control and Video management Software L&T has partnered with Verint Systems, who has provided entire suite of Video management software and Situation Management Center (SMC) software. Verint’ s SMC software platform will further integrate various databases and deliver an integrated Video Surveillance project to Mumbai Police. For other components like Servers, Storage and Video wall L&T has collaborated with known technology partners as the system is unique since it is spread over entire city. CMS and MTNL are collaborative partners to L&T in this Project
