Tarun Vijay, BJP MP from Uttarakhand, on Tuesday termed the 
struggle to protect net neutrality as Gandhi’s second salt satyagraha and asked Union minister for communication Ravi Shankar Prasad to make India first country to legislate a strong internet bill for civil liberties.
He was speaking on a call attention motion on the subject brought in by TMC MP Derek O’Brian in the Rajya Sabha.
What is net neutrality and why it is important?
Tarun Vijay said the minister should ensure that telecom companies who often fraudulently over bill unsuspecting consumers for un-subscribed services should not be allowed to punish people for their failures.
”Emailing shouldn’t be turned into blackmailing,” he added.
He said the Indians use internet hugely in Indian languages and for them net neutrality means internet ki azadi.
Union minister Ravi Shankar assured in his reply to the MPs that ”we are committed to protect the principle of net neutrality and whatever Trai suggests, the final decision will be taken by the govt in the interests of the people”.
