NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today announced that IDC ranked NetApp as having the number-one storage solution shipped in 2012 for public cloud infrastructure from the perspective of external system capacity. The ranking was conducted as part of IDC’s biannual Storage User Demand Study, which analyzes current and future deployments of enterprise storage systems for particular data uses.
By harnessing the versatility and efficiency of the Data ONTAP® operating system, NetApp delivers a universal data platform, enabling dynamic data portability and extensive customer choice across a blend of private and public cloud resources.
“As our survey indicated, end users adopt and will continue to adopt variety of cloud storage services to optimize and expand their storage environments,” says Natalya Yezhkova, research director, IDC. “Participation in building cloud infrastructures is an essential opportunity for storage system suppliers but it also requires innovation in product and solution designs to satisfy service provider needs, which are very different from traditional storage architectures.”
With more IT organizations complementing private cloud infrastructure with public cloud services, NetApp® Data ONTAP software provides a common fabric for storage and data management across all cloud resources. NetApp continues to provide an extensive array of customer choices for hybrid cloud operations and supports all major cloud operating environments. NetApp currently has more than 175 cloud service providers delivering more than 300 cloud services built on Data ONTAP.
NetApp is the first major storage supplier building an ecosystem around a private storage solution for Amazon Web Services and was recognized as the Private Cloud Partner of the Year by Microsoft. In addition, the #1 integrated infrastructure platform[2], the FlexPod® data center platform, from Cisco and NetApp is a proven platform for service providers and enterprises.
“NetApp has long focused on innovative solutions for service providers,” said Phil Brotherton, vice president, Cloud Solutions Group, NetApp. “IDC recognizing our #1 position in public cloud providers highlights the strength of our products and services for and close partnerships with many of the world’s most advanced users.”
