KDE Community has recently confirmed the release of KDE Applications 15.08 with some interesting stuff. The launch of the latest version eventually begins a new chapter for KDE project. While the Plasma desktop is known for its modern desktop computing experience, KDE Applications and KDE Frameworks definitely play a significant role for its success. The newest version of KDE Applications claims to have fascinating features which are all set to hit all the distros that integrate KDE as their desktop environment.
Though all the developers have not adopted the new KDE components, they are gradually taking interest in it.
Moreover, some distributions had added KDE Plasma 5.4 Beta even before it reached the stable version. Although it is not a maintenance upgrade, it comes with quite a few new options. So do keep a close eye on the repositories. Meanwhile, developers are working hard to port everything to the new KDE Frameworks 5.x.
“With this release, a total of 107 applications have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5. The team is striving to bring the best quality to your desktop and these applications. So we’re counting on you to send your feedback. With this release, there are several new additions to the KDE Frameworks 5-based applications list, including Dolphin, the Kontact Suite, Ark, Picmi, etc.” confirmed the developers in the official announcement.
In the mean time, if you are interested in doing some experiments, you can download the source from the official KDE website and compile it yourself.
