New Leak Provides Detailed Specifications for Apple A17 Bionic

Upcoming Leak Reveals Detailed Specifications for Apple A17 Bionic SoC
A recent leak has provided insights into the forthcoming Apple A17 Bionic System on Chip (SoC). Expected to drive the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max (or iPhone 15 Ultra), this advanced chip will incorporate a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and 6 GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

With the anticipated launch of the iPhone 15 series just around the corner (scheduled for September 8, 2023), more information regarding the smartphones has surfaced online. While the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are set to utilize the previous year’s A16 Bionic SoC, the cutting-edge iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max (or iPhone 15 Ultra) will transition to the new Apple A17 Bionic. This recent leak offers further insights into the specifications of this upcoming SoC.

According to the leak provided by Twitter user @URedditor, the Apple A17 Bionic will maintain the six-core CPU configuration of its predecessor. The CPU structure is likely to comprise a 2+4 split between performance and efficiency cores. The performance cores are expected to achieve boosts of up to 3.70 GHz, a noteworthy enhancement compared to the A16 Bionic’s maximum clock speed of 3.42 GHz. This improvement can be attributed to the transition from TSMC N4P to N3B manufacturing process.

The Apple A17 Bionic will also incorporate a 6-core GPU and 6 GB of LPDDR5 memory sourced from Samsung/Micron. Despite the relatively modest memory capacity, the inclusion of an extra GPU core could contribute to improved gaming performance. It remains to be seen whether the chip will support hardware-based ray tracing, a feature that has been present in flagship processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek for some time.

Furthermore, the leaker suggests that Apple’s strategy of employing last-generation chips in non-Pro iPhones will persist. The A17 Bionic is also slated to power the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus in 2024.
