NXP Semiconductors, a leading semiconductor company, today announced its ‘Innovate in India’ strategy to stimulate India’s domestic ESDM drive. As a first step, NXP today introduces two IoT and wearable platforms – WaRP7 and Hexiwear to help simplify and speed up the Electronic product innovation in India to enable secure connections for a smarter world. The platform will equip Start Up’s, Entrepreneurs, Product Design Labs and R&D organizations both large and small with a development solution that enables them to focus on their creative idea and GTM strategy for IOT applications and productization rather than starting ground up for every design.
If the chip is the heart of electronics product, think of our new platforms as a ready to use circulatory system including the heart, said Ashok Chandak, Sr. Director, Global Sales and Marketing, NXP Semiconductors. “NXPs Innovate in India strategy is a step towards realising Government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘StartUp India’ missions, aligned with the need for product innovation. We believe that product designing will evolve as the success catalyst for India to become an electronics manufacturing nation.’
WaRP7
The WaRP7 development platform presents new opportunity for IoT and wearable device designers. The platform enables a shorter time-to-market and addresses key IoT and wearables challenges, including battery life, connectivity, usability (user experience) and miniaturization. Though a tiny form factor (the main CPU is approximately 2 x 4 cm), the WaRP7 is flexible and offers all the advantages of traditional development tools. The open-source design allows developers to take the platform as a starting point and innovate without licensing restrictions.
The platform consists of a main board and a daughter card. The main board is based on the NXP’s i.MX 7Solo applications processor that features an advanced implementation of the ARM® Cortex® – A7 core, as well as the Cortex-M4 core. All components included in this system are selected based on low power consumption, small form factor and cost.
The WaRP7 is available on www.element14.com/WaRP7 at INR 7777.
The Hexiwear Reference Platform
Enhanced by NXP and based on Kinetis MCUs, Hexiwear is a complete development solution developed by MikroElektronika. Fun and easy to use, Hexiwear is an attractive small form factor (smaller than 2” by 2”) board with open source hardware, and 7 NXP components and multiple sensors. The platform is designed especially for end node applications in the IOT chain with several built in sensors ranging from temperature, pressure, humidity and ambient light to optical heart rate measurement, accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope. Customers can also add sensors of their choice from about 200 different certified options – therefore offering plug and play customizability. It also comes loaded with an on board rechargeable battery and an OLED screen, and a range of optimized open source software support including embedded drivers to cloud connectivity.
The solution is designed to reduce product development or design time for wearable and IoT applications, thereby accelerating the manufacturing process.
Hexiwear is available on www.Hexiwear.com at $49.
“It is design, and not just assembly that ensures competitiveness for both domestic and export markets. NXP’s product focus therefore continues to remain on enabling superior and more efficient product design. Combined with India’s superior talent quality and spirit of entrepreneurship, we believe we will be able to accelerate domestic ESDM innovation and help India make her mark in the world,” concludes Ashok Chandak
