OpenAI has unveiled the capability for ChatGPT Plus subscribers to create their personalized AI agents through its GPT platform without the need for coding. This platform allows individuals to craft customized versions of ChatGPT for specific purposes, introducing them as GPTs. Expected to be available via the GPT Store soon, these GPTs will offer flexibility for specific tasks, with compensation planned for creators based on usage.
Announced at OpenAI’s DevDay conference, the platform also introduced enhanced versions of GPT-4 and a reduction in model prices for developers, coinciding with the news of ChatGPT amassing 100 million weekly users. The objective of the GPT platform is to fulfill users’ requests for more control and personalization in using ChatGPT, aiming to streamline their tasks and provide more tailored interactions.
During a demonstration, examples were shown, such as a “Creative Writing Coach” critiquing a written piece and an “Event Navigator” guiding attendees through a conference schedule. The GPTs are auto-generated with features like DALL-E for image creation, web browsing, data uploading, and the incorporation of external services via Actions.
This move positions OpenAI in competition with AI bot platforms like Character.AI and Meta, emphasizing utility-oriented bots over human-like personas. OpenAI is focused on keeping user interactions private, restricting access to verified identities while monitoring content for fraud and inappropriate content.
By rolling out this platform and restricting access to paid subscribers, OpenAI aims to advance its revenue growth and move closer to its overarching goal of creating an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Ultimately, OpenAI’s GPT platform aims to create a user-friendly AI that can cater to specific needs without the necessity of coding, positioning itself within the competitive AI landscape.
