Christopher Nolan’s recently released biographical thriller, “Oppenheimer,” which portrays the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project, has achieved significant box-office success, grossing an impressive $174 million worldwide in just three days. The film has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike for its portrayal of historical events.
However, not all viewers have been equally satisfied with the movie. Samuel Harris Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, expressed his disappointment with the film on Twitter. He had hoped that “Oppenheimer” would inspire young minds to pursue physics, but in his opinion, the movie fell short of achieving this goal. Altman contrasted it with “The Social Network,” which he felt successfully inspired a generation of startup founders.
Elon Musk, the CTO of Twitter, shared a similar sentiment to Sam Altman’s dissatisfaction with the film “Oppenheimer” by responding with a concise “Indeed.” Musk also posted a tweet featuring a picture of someone using TikTok on their phone in a crowded theater while watching the movie, suggesting that the film was too long.
Additionally, a specific scene in “Oppenheimer,” where the titular character is depicted having sex while reciting verses from an ancient Sanskrit scripture, has sparked controversy on social media. Some users claimed that the lines are from the Bhagavad Gita and demanded their removal from the film.
Furthermore, Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur expressed disappointment with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for approving objectionable scenes in the movie. He has reportedly asked officials to remove these scenes from screenings in Indian theaters.
In a review of the film, The Indian Express’ Shalini Langer stated that Christopher Nolan’s focus is on the inner world of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is credited as the father of the atom bomb.
