Today, Rackspace® Hosting (NYSE: RAX), the open cloud company, launched ObjectRocket™, its NoSQL MongoDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS), in Hong Kong. The service will help Rackspace’s customers in Hong Kong to scale and manage big data in the cloud for today’s most demanding applications. The offering is built upon hardware optimised specifically for MongoDB and easily accessed and integrated into existing systems.
As data continues to increase exponentially, big data spending in the Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APeJ) region is predicted to reach US$1.02 billion in 2014 and will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CARG) of 34.1percent through 2017, according to analyst firm IDC[1].
“Data growth continues to be one of IT’s biggest challenges – especially how to store it, access it and make use of it,” said Ajit Melarkode, managing director, Rackspace Asia Pacific. “ObjectRocket helps to address this challenge, as it allows companies to effectively process and analyse large volumes of data, transforming it into a competitive advantage.”
ObjectRocket is a sharded and fully managed MongoDB service built with a set of tools and APIs designed to maximise uptime and reduce administration efforts for big data applications – all supported by Fanatical Support®. It is highly scalable allowing it to grow with customers’ business needs. In addition, data is multiplexed across many physically separate systems – helping to minimise the possibility of downtime.
“We are delighted that Rackspace chose Hong Kong to launch ObjectRocket, a game-changing technology that will further establish Hong Kong’s presence as a dominant and innovative technology hub in Asia,” said Charles Ng, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Invest Hong Kong. “With ObjectRocket in place, Hong Kong businesses can further accelerate their growth by focusing on their core business as opposed to dealing with complex IT problems or challenges.”
Rackspace has precision-tuned its delivery of MongoDB to make it much faster for customers to use. With the availability of this offering in Hong Kong, customers will be able to benefit from a service that has been completely optimised for running MongoDB across all layers of the stack, from the network to the file system and the hardware. It is essentially a power socket for applications; users just plug it into ObjectRocket and Rackspace helps manage the scaling, sharding and performance of the database itself, freeing developer time to focus on the application itself.
“Understanding customer needs and trends is a key element for businesses, such as online retailers, consumer good companies, market research, social media firms, and financial houses running complex data models. With ObjectRocket, companies can make critical business decisions based on data and consumer insights,” added Melarkode.
