Reliance Jio slashes prices again, to offer 50% more data under Republic Day 2018 offer
Reliance Jio the telecom operator that made its entry and shook the Indian telecom market, has yet again revised its plans under the Jio Republic Day offer. The company is now offering 50% more data at Rs 50 less on its existing plans.
The revised plans will be available January 26, 2018 onwards. All existing plans that offer 1GB data per day have been bumped up to offer 1.5GB data per day and the plans that were offering 1.5GB per day will now have 2GB per day limit. This means that plans at Rs 149, Rs 349, Rs 399 and Rs 449 will all have 1.5GB data per day limit with a validity of 28 days, 70 days, 84 days and 91 days respectively. Whereas, the plans at Rs 198, Rs 398, Rs 448 and Rs 498 will have 2GB data per day with a validity of 28 days, 70 days, 84 days and 91 days respectively. All the aforementioned plans include unlimited calling benefits for both local and national calls.
Jio has also introduced a lower entry price-point plan at Rs 98. This plan offers 56GB data with a FUP limit of 2GB data per day and valid for 28 days.
These plans have been launched as a response to Airtel’s tariff changes, said the company in a statement. Airtel has been aggressively revising its plans to compete with Reliance Jio. Both prepaid plans at Rs 149 and Rs 399 are the most recent ones to be revised.
For the Rs 149 plan, Airtel is offering unlimited local and STD calls, 100 SMS per day and 1GB data for the period of 28 days. As for the Rs 399 plan, Airtel users get unlimited local and STD calling, 100 SMS per day and 1GB 3G/4G data per day for the period of 84 days.
In comparison to Airtel’s plans, the now revised Reliance Jio plans offer more data for Rs 149 and Rs 399 by 0.5GB in the same respective validity periods. We’ll have to wait and see how Airtel will now counter these plans, and given the trend, that should happen sooner rather than later.
