At the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries’ chairman and managing director announced that Reliance Jio will be available for everyone from September 5.
The company also announced that as part of the introductory offer, all Jio users will get free data, voice, video and full bouquet of Jio applications and content till December 31, 2016. The telco is also offering the whole collection of Jio Apps worth Rs 1500 free to all active Jio users till December 31, 2017.
Reliance Jio has also revealed details about its other plans. All these plans include free unlimited local and STD voice calls and roaming across the country. The plans start at Rs 149 and go up to Rs 4,999. For Rs 499, the users will get 4GB of 4G data and unlimited 4G at night for a period of 28 days. Users will also get 8GB of data access from Reliance Jio’s upcoming network of Wi-Fi hotspots, further increasing the amount of data users can avail.
For Rs 999, users will get 10GB of 4G data, 20GB of Wi-Fi usage and unlimited usage at night. Other plans include 20GB data for Rs 1,499, 35GB for Rs 2,499 and 60GB for Rs. 3,999 (all 4G data), as well as twice as much Wi-Fi usage respectively.
The most expensive plan among all offers 75GB of 4G usage at Rs 4,999, along with unlimited 4G at night and 150GB of Wi-Fi data. All these are pre-paid plans as Jio has not yet revealed its post-paid plans.
Moreover, as part of the student discounts, students will be able to get 25% more data on Jio’s main tariffs.
Going by these plans, the Rs 149 plan appears quite expensive. As per the pricing, the rate is about Rs 50 per GB. But the telco is only offering 0.3GB for Rs 149. On the other hand, competitor telcos are offering more data at similar price points. However, bigger data packs are cheaper as compared to competitor offerings.
