Retain your Mobile No. On Shifting Cities

Mobile users will no more have to worry about the phone number they have been using for years. According to the latest reports, users would now be able to retain their numbers across the country. The National Mobile Number Portability (NMNP) service initiated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority ensures that the mobile numbers do not change even if a user shifs base.

The deadline for NMNP was May 3 which got extended till July 3 as the service providers were initially not ready and protested that they would suffer huge losses if customers don’t buy new connections.

With the launch of this service, users would neither have to take the strain of roaming charges by the time they get a new number in a new city, nor give up a mobile number, he or she has been using for years.

State owned MTNL and BSNL as well as private players like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have entered the bandwagon and promised to roll out their services from today. Other service providers such as Uninor, MTS and Videocon have also accepted the deadline. Meanwhile, Reliance Communications has also confirmed that it would provide NMNP from July 3. With an aim to retain their customers, telecom operators are expected to launch attractive plans and special offers.
