Samsung’s executive vice president, Lee Young Hee has confirmed that the company is working on a smartwatch. Though there is no information on the look of the watch, the name of the watch has come up in the trademark filing as Samsung GEAR.
The trademark filing was found by the folks at Phandroid. The device is open to interpretation as there are terms which are too vague, moreover, there is a large description of the device that mentions the software. According to couple of filings, there are terms like ‘wrist watch’ and ‘bracelet’, which makes it clear that GEAR is a smartwatch.
Apart from keywords like Clocks, Watchbands and Wristwatches, there is a description under ‘Identification’ that talks about ‘watches that communicate data to personal digital assistants, smart phones, table PCs, PDA and personal computers via internet websites and other computer and electronic communications networks, watchbands that communicate data to above mentioned devices.”
“We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them,” added Lee.
