The Samsung Exynos 5 Octa processor will be able to use all of its eight cores at the same time now, the company has announced today. According to Samsung, the Heterogenous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution for the Exynos 5 Octa processor will maximise the effects of the ARM big.LITTLE technology.
The new processor will not only deliver high-performance but also use low-power while doing resource extensive tasks such as 3D gaming and running augmented reality-based applications. Samsung’s Exynos 5 could till now use only four of its eight cores at the same time while the MediaTek version of the octa-core processor chip was capable of using all of its cores at the same time. The new HMP solution puts the Samsung version at par.
This is the truest form of the big.LITTLE technology, which can revolutionise the smartphone industry. It will enable resource extensive tasks such as running the big A15 cores, while the LITTLE side of the processor does the smaller tasks through the A7 cores.
The new solution will definitely allow better 3D gaming on smartphones and tablets. In addition, it will provide better support for Augmented Reality-based activities. Moreover, the web browsing experience on smartphones and tablets will be enhanced and many other applications are now possible.
