South Korean tech giant Samsung has slashed the prices of its current flagship smartphones — Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ — in India. The price of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is now down to Rs 53,900, while the Galaxy S8+ is now available at Rs 58,900. Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus (64GB variant) were launched at Rs 57,900 and Rs 64,900 respectively making it a price cut of Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,000 effectively. Both handsets had earlier received a promotional discount of Rs 4,000 during Navratri season. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were launched earlier this year. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch QuadHD+ (2960×1440) ‘Infinity Display’ with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 570ppi pixel density. It is powered by an octa-core Exynos Series 9 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The US model comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processors.
On the optics front, the Galaxy S8 sports the same 12MP dual-pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS that was used in the Galaxy S7. There is an upgraded front-facing 8MP autofocus camera with f/1.7 aperture. Some of the connectivity features included is Wi-Fi, NFC, USB Type-C, GPS and Bluetooth 5.0.
The bigger-screen variant, Galaxy S8+ sports a 6.2-inch QuadHD+ (2960×1440) ‘Infinity Display’ with 529ppi pixel density. Powered by the same processor, the Galaxy S8 Plus comes with the same RAM and inbuilt storage. It is backed by a larger 3500mAh battery supporting the same wireless fast-charging technology. The camera specifics also stay similar to that of the Galaxy S8.
Earlier this month, Samsung has slashed the price of its budget smartphones — Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J5 Prime — in India too. Both the smartphones were launched in September last year. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime which was launched at Rs 18,790 is now available at Rs 14,900, while the Galaxy J5 Prime is selling at Rs 12,990 after the price cut of Rs 1,800.
