South Korean electronics giant Samsung is all set to launch its latest Gear S3 smartwatch in India. The company will be launching the device today at an event in New Delhi.
Unveiled in September at the IFA 2016 tradeshow in Berlin, the smartwatch comes in two variants – Frontier and Classic. Both variants will be launched in the country.
In terms of specifications, the Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch circular Super AMOLED display of 360×360 pixel resolution and 278 ppi pixel density. It comes with a rotating bezel along with new enhanced features. The smartwatch also has a full colour ‘Always On’ display with Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ protection, a feature officially unveiled just hours ago. Powering the wearable is a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, coupled with a 768MB RAM. The internal storage of the smartwatch, however, stays the same as the Gear S2 – 4GB.
The device comes with an IP68 rating making it dust and water resistant. It has a heart rate sensor along with connectivity options, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and Glonass. Apart from providing support for wireless charging, the device packs a 380mAh battery as well.
Both variants of the Gear S3 will come with 22mm straps. The two variants differ in terms of weight, design, and connectivity options available. While the Frontier variant weighs 62 grams, sports a rugged outdoor ‘enduring’ style, and is 3G/LTE-enabled, the Classic version weighs 57 grams, has a ‘minimalistic elegant’ design, and does not have support for 3G/LTE.
Samsung recently announced that its Gear series of wearables are now compatible with iOS devices. According to a statement released by the company, devices, such as the Gear S2, Gear S3, and Gear Fit 2 are now compatible with Apple’s iOS operating system.
