Samsung on Monday said it is investigating reports of heating issues on its new Galaxy Note 7 devices after US carrier AT&T Inc said it would stop exchanging the device to customers.
“If we determine a product safety issue exists, Samsung will take immediate steps approved by the CPSC to resolve the situation,”
A Southwest Airline plane was evacuated last week after a Note 7 phone began smoking inside the plane. The family that owned the device said the phone was a replacement device that Samsung has said uses safe batteries.
AT&T Inc had said on Sunday it will stop exchanging the Galaxy Note 7 following reports of fires from the replacement devices.
“Based on recent reports, we’re no longer exchanging new Note 7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents,” an AT&T spokesman said in a emailed-statement to Reuters on Sunday.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said it had confirmed a Samsung phone had caused the smoke and was investigating the incident, putting pressure on the company as it struggles with the global scandal which has hurt its reputation.
