Samsung has just launched an updated version of its Gear 360 camera. The South Korean chaebol’s Gear 360 (2017) comes with 4K video and 360-degree content capture. The camera also sports a refreshed design that’s aimed at enhancing ease of use. Having 8.4MP image sensors on both of its dual-fisheye lenses, the new Gear 360 can easily create high-resolution images. The 4K video recording makes for a more realistic and immersive digital experience.
The mushroom-shaped device uses Samsung’s technologies to seamlessly share, view and edit content. Whether it’s creating 360-degree videos or still images, users can access different viewing modes, editing tools, as well as photo effects and filters to create customized content. The 360-degree videos shot by the Gear 360 can also be converted to standard format(s) for easier sharing.
Samsung’s Gear 360 (2017) comes with real-time content sharing. When synced to a compatible smartphone or computer, the device enables users to share their creations with high-quality live broadcasts. The same can be uploaded to platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Samsung VR.
The new Gear 360 (2017) is compatible with a collection of third-party accessories and mounts. In addition to the newly-launched Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung’s new 360-degree camera is compatible with numerous other smartphones including Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017). In addition, it offers greater compatibility with iOS-powered devices such as iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE. Support for Windows and Mac computers is included as well
Samsung launched the first Gear 360 camera in 2016. However, that model didn’t come to India.
Commenting about the launch, Younghee Lee, Samsung’s executive vice president of global marketing and wearable business, mobile communications said, “As consumers turn more to video to share their experiences, we want to deliver accessible and innovative products to make digital content easier to create, share and stream. The updated Gear 360 will continue to expand the horizons of what consumers can experience and share.”
