At the ongoing Photokina 2016 trade in Cologne, Germany, digital memory solutions provider SanDisk has showcased a prototype of arguably the largest capacity SDXC card till date.
The prototype memory card comes with 1TB storage capacity and is aimed at photo and video professionals. With image and video quality getting better and 4K slowly becoming the standard (and 8K following up), it’s only a matter of time before high-capacity memory solutions are needed to keep up with the growing storage needs of both professionals and casual users.
It’s worth noting that two years back at Photokina 2014, SanDisk unveiled its 512GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I memory card. Higher capacity cards enhance the possibilities for professional videographers and photographers, allowing them to shoot/record more high quality content without having to worry about changing memory cards and transferring content to PCs.
Back in May this year, SanDisk was acquired by digital storage solutions provider Western Digital Corporation.
Speaking about the product, Western Digital’s vice president of product management and content solutions business unit said, “Showcasing the most advanced imaging technologies is truly exciting for us. Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64MB SD™ card and today we are enabling capacities of 1TB. Over the years our goal has remained the same; continue to innovate and set the pace for the imaging industry. The SanDisk 1TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates.”
SanDisk recently launched its iXpand memory case for the iPhone 6 and 6S models that not only brings extra storage to the phones, but also adds on to the battery life. The case however, is not for iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus models.
The iXpand Memory Case comes in three variants based on the storage capacities – 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Besides protecting the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S models, the case features an additional 1,900mAh battery. This adds a great amount of battery backup to the 1,810mAh and 1,715mAh battery capacity of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S respectively. The case sports a hard plastic outside and soft rubber inside.
