Flipkart India Pvt. Ltd, India’s largest e-tailer, named former Tata Communications finance chief Sanjay Baweja as its new chief financial officer (CFO); the position had been vacant for over 18 months.
Flipkart appointed Baweja, who has nearly 30 years of experience at firms such as Bharti Airtel and Xerox ModiCorp Ltd, as CFO. “Sanjay brings with him a rich experience of running financial set-ups across large and diverse organizations,” Flipkart co-founder and chief executive Sachin Bansal said. “His impressive background of successfully structuring the financial strategy of market leaders is going to be invaluable as we enter a pivotal point in our growth story.”
Flipkart, which has raised $1.8 billion from investors, is recruiting several senior management executives in technology, operations and supply chain, as the fast-growing firm looks to strengthen its leadership team to hold its ground against rivals such as Amazon India and its dominant position ahead of a possible initial public offering (IPO) in two to three years.
Earlier this week, Flipkart shuffled its top executives in its biggest organizational overhaul intended to consolidate its management structure and increase focus on its private brands business—board member Mukesh Bansal replaced Ravi Vora as marketing chief; Vora will lead the firm’s push towards building a large private brands business in electronics, home appliances and other categories.
