Skype Qik video Messaging App Set To Shut Down In March

Skype has revealed that it is killing its Qik video messaging app. The app was launched in October 2014 on Android, iOS and Windows Phone platform. The company has stated that it will shut down the app on March 24.

Qik app from Skype enabled users to record 42 seconds long video. The video recorded using Qik lasted for a period of two weeks. Along with this, the users were also allowed to add video and captions to the message. Skype said users have to save any special message on the Qik app before March 24 as after this, they will not be able to send r receive messages.

Skype has also moved some of the interesting Qik features to its Skype app and has also enabled video messaging feature on Skype with some filters for improved user experience.

In its official blog post, Skype said, “In 2014, we launched Skype Qik, a mobile video messaging app to help share moments with groups of friends. Since then, we have learned that many of you are already doing these things in Skype, and as a result, we migrated some of Qik’s most used features into the Skype app you already know and love.”

Last week, Skype introduced its new group video calling feature for Android, iOS and Windows phone users. The group calling feature from Skype supports full HD broadcast. Moreover, Microsoft has also partnered with Intel in order to optimize SILK Audio so, that it can offer a clear audio experience even with increased number of participants.
