The Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony has announced the appointment of Sunil Nayyar to lead the company’s consumer electronics business in the US. The company is promoting him to a CXO role in the Japanese major directly from India.
Nayyar is credited with building Sony’s wide retail network, which eventually played a key role in making India its fourth largest market globally.
While Nayyar is the first Indian to move to Sony’s US operations in such a senior role directly from India, he will be the second Indian to be part of its US leadership team.
The 46-year-old Nayyar will join also the managing committee of Sony Corp of America in San Diego, where he will be responsible for driving almost 65 per cent of the company’s revenue in the US.
Nayyar started his stint at Sony in 1995, as part of the sales team at Sony Gulf and responsible for North and East Africa, Russia, Lebanon, Syria and various other Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He moved to Sony India as sales head in 2006.
From the educational perspective, Nayyar did his graduation from Delhi University and MBA from IMT Ghaziabad.
