Software-only embedded connectivity and subscription management solution offers connectivity, scalability, configuration and simple user experience
Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT), a leader in Internet of Things (IoT) technology, today announced that it will unveil its Embedded Connectivity and Subscription Management ecosystem at next month’s IoT World Event. The software-only ecosystem is unique in offering IoT developers universal global connectivity, extreme scalability, dynamic remote configuration and simple user experience.
Spirent’s IoT ecosystem partners will demonstrate the ecosystem on booth #926 at IoT World, using real-world connected devices, including smartwatches, connected avocados and an Aston Martin Racing car. Spirent’s partners in the show comprise:
Oasis Smart SIM – a global Universal Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) connectivity and management provider;
-
Teleena – a leading global enabler for IoT connectivity, billing and mobility;
-
Netthings – an innovative hardware and software developer creating a flexible and cost-efficient IoT platform for building automation, connected cars, security and more; and
-
Airfi Networks – a Global IoT connectivity provider.
“Spirent is the only vendor that delivers embedded SIM functionality through a pure software-only business model. It can be readily embedded into a secure hardware element, or as a software-only SIM Operating System for any hardware platform of choice,” said Dennis Juul Poulsen, general manager of Spirent’s Connectivity and Subscription Management business. “Through our pure software SIM OS business model, device and chipset makers and solution providers can increase the profitability of their IoT business and have a greater role in the IoT value chain.”
The Spirent Embedded Connectivity solution, combined with a remote subscription management cloud, enables industries and cellular service providers to achieve their full IoT potential, with a platform that provides universal global connectivity, extreme scalability, dynamic remote configuration and simple user experience. The Embedded Connectivity solution includes market leading embedded SIM technology from Spirent’s strategic partner Oasis Smart SIM.
The solution enables device manufacturers and chipset makers to embed SIM functionality directly into a secure hardware element of their choice as software and remove the need for a physical and carrier-dedicated SIM card. With its pure software only SIM business model, Spirent differentiates from competing SIM vendors, which deliver embedded SIM together with the secure hardware element.
When a connected product or device is unboxed, it automatically connects to a cellular network through a standard SIM bootstrap functionality. Spirent’s unique Auto-connect solution includes also an always up to date Access Point Name (APN) setup functionality, which in addition to the standard SIM bootstrap, enables instant mobile data connectivity anywhere in the world. With just two clicks, the manufacturer, solution provider or end-user can switch the cellular network for a device, or for an entire fleet of devices when needed.
Spirent’s Embedded Connectivity solution is an open IoT ecosystem for OEMs, chipset manufacturers, carriers and application developers. It is developed according to the GSMA specifications, which means a future proof investment.
Roadmap and timeline
The event (May 10-12) is being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Silicon Valley, and will be attended by global leaders in IoT from the entire ecosystem.
Spirent’s Embedded Connectivity solution will be launched during 2016 in a phased manner so that the commercially available solution releases conform to the corresponding GSMA specification releases.
