The iconic Terminal 2 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), administered by Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL), was named the Best Landmark Project of the Year at the Construction Times Awards 2016, held this month at Gurgaon, as part of the Bauma Conexpo 2016. The esteemed award was presented at an opulent award ceremony, graced by the Minister of State, Haryana for rural Development and PWD, Sh. O.P. Dhankar.
The four-storied Terminal 2 serves as the quintessential reception for visitors to the city of Mumbai, celebrating a new global, high-tech identity, imbued with reflections of local history and culture. The structure showcases state-of-the-art technology and innovation, along with architecture that reflects the influence of Indian design and tradition. While the interior hosts custom chandeliers inspired by the lotus flower and traditional mirror mosaic work created by local artists, the elongated X-shaped terminal is one of the largest in the world without an expansion joint, serving to optimizing terminal operations by a considerable extent. The sleek interiors of the terminal inspired by the design of a dancing peacock were made in a way to enable ample use of daylight making it a highly energy efficient structure. With modern strategies setting a new standard for sustainable airport design, the terminal is as much a showpiece of the history and traditions of India and Mumbai, as it is an unprecedented structural and technological achievement.
The Construction Times Awards are held each year to honour those exemplary leaders of the industry who put forth remarkable standards of excellence, both in their work and for the sector as a whole. Bauma Conexpo India is a successful yearly trade show where exhibitors and visitors alike come together to experience the advancements the construction industry has seen in the past year.
