In a significant stride towards enhancing cybersecurity measures, the government has introduced the ‘Chakshu’ initiative on the Sanchar Saathi portal. This pioneering step empowers citizens to proactively report suspicious communications that may be part of fraudulent activities.
Led by Union Minister of Communications, Railways, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the launch of the portal highlights the government’s unwavering dedication to combatting cyber frauds through the Secure India project across national, organizational, and individual levels.
The ‘Chakshu’ platform provides citizens with a mechanism to flag any dubious communication received via various channels, including calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages, with the intention of defrauding individuals. Such communications may include requests for sensitive information like KYC updates, bank account details, payment wallet credentials, SIM card details, or gas connection information.
Lt. Gen. S.P. Kochhar, Director General of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts in addressing cyber fraud. He emphasized the importance of all stakeholders working together to effectively combat cyber fraud, stating that initiatives like ‘Chakshu’ are instrumental in channeling citizens to a unified platform led by the government. This platform encourages active participation from individuals by sharing knowledge to prevent undesirable and malicious activities.
In addition to ‘Chakshu,’ the government has also introduced the ‘Digital Intelligence Platform’ by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). This platform aims to facilitate coordination among various stakeholders to crack down on the misuse of telecom resources in cybercrime and financial fraud.
